It’s time for the third volume of my Murderbook databases, which starts in January 2000 - in the middle of a feud between rival loyalists in Northern Ireland - and ends in December 2005.

As the Noughties began, Britain was ruled by a Labour government, under Tony Blair, but the decade was dominated by 9/11, the invasion of Iraq and the rise of Islamist fanatics intent on causing mayhem in the West.

But ordinary criminals carried on dealing drugs and murdering gang rivals, often catching innocent people in the crossfire.
