In 2009 Mario Celaire was jailed for life for killing his girlfriend, seven years after being acquitted of murder.

The crucial evidence came from another woman who had formed a relationship with Celaire and was then attacked and left for dead with a hammer.

In today’s Substack, Celaire’s lawyer Stephen Akinsanya (pictured) tells me the whole saga and recounts the moment his client confessed to him as he was preparing to defend him at his second trial at the Old Bailey.
