Hackney Turks kingpin convicted over extortion shooting, but here’s what the jury were NOT told
On Friday (5 June) Beytullah Gunduz, one of the leaders of the Hackney Turks, was convicted of conspiracy to murder a man outside a Turkish restaurant called Umut 2000, in June 2025.
A trial at the Old Bailey heard Gunduz and his gang were trying to extort £100,000 from the family who owned the restaurant – but the jury were not told the full story about Gunduz (pictured below).
In today’s Substack I will tell you how Gunduz avoided jail for the murder of a leading Tottenham Turk in 2013, how he was targeted in an EncroChat plot in 2019, and how he narrowly escaped being killed in 2024 when a nine-year-old girl was shot outside another Turkish restaurant.
