On 5 November 1979 Ann Carryer, and her friend Christine Blood, both 39, were brutally murdered at a house in Congleton, Cheshire which was known as Boarded Barn Cottage.

It was a huge story at the time, as was the eventual conviction of three bungling kidnappers from Yorkshire, but almost a half a century on the Boarded Barn murders have been almost completely forgotten.

In today’s Substack I speak to Robert Barnes, who brought the case to my attention and explained the “speed and completeness with which it was forgotten” about, even by true crime enthusiasts.
